The Brain Energy Crisis: Mitochondria, Fatigue and Cognitive Decline

Date: 8 October 2026
Time: 6:00pm

UNDERSTANDING THE ENERGY SYSTEMS THAT POWER MEMORY, MOOD AND MENTAL PERFORMANCE

Why do so many people feel exhausted, mentally drained, forgetful, or unable to think as clearly as they once did?

For many, these symptoms are dismissed as just ageing, stress, or simply having too much on their plate. But what is really going on underneath those symptoms? A growing body of research suggests something much deeper is happening.

At the centre of the story are mitochondria, tiny energy-producing structures found in every cell of the body that generate the fuel your brain depends on to function.

When these energy systems begin to struggle, the effects can show up long before a diagnosis of cognitive decline. Fatigue, brain fog, poor concentration, low motivation, memory problems, and reduced mental resilience may all be signs that the brain is not getting the energy it needs.

In this webinar, Dr Sarah Myhill explains why mitochondrial function may be one of the most important and overlooked factors in protecting long-term brain health.

Drawing on decades of clinical experience and research into energy metabolism, fatigue, and chronic illness, she will explain how the brain generates energy, why this process can break down, and what practical steps may help support healthier brain function.

Every thought, memory, decision and emotion depends on energy

When your brain’s energy supply starts to struggle, the consequences can show up as fatigue, brain fog, poor concentration, low mood, and memory problems long before any diagnosis is made. Understanding how the brain generates energy may be one of the most important steps you can take to protect cognitive health and maintain mental sharpness as you age.

In this webinar, you will learn:

  • Why brain energy may be one of the missing pieces in understanding fatigue, brain fog, mood and cognitive decline
  • How mitochondria influence memory, focus, mental performance and healthy ageing
  • What happens when the brain’s energy systems become less efficient, and the early signs to look out for
  • The key nutritional, lifestyle and metabolic factors that support or undermine healthy mitochondrial function
  • Practical strategies to help protect brain energy, support cognitive resilience and stay mentally sharp as you age

Who this is for?

This webinar is designed for anyone interested in understanding the science of brain health and healthy ageing.

This webinar is for anyone interested in:

  • You experience fatigue, brain fog or low mental energy
  • You are concerned about memory changes or cognitive decline
  • You want to better understand the causes of poor concentration and mental performance
  • You have an interest in nutrition, lifestyle medicine and prevention
  • You are supporting a family member experiencing cognitive decline
  • You want practical, evidence-informed strategies to help protect your brain as you age

No prior scientific knowledge is required.

About our Speaker:

Dr Sarah Myhill headshot for The Brain Energy Crisis: Mitochondria, Fatigue and Cognitive Decline webinar

Dr Sarah Myhill qualified from the Middlesex Hospital Medical School in 1981 and spent two decades working as an NHS GP before moving into independent practice, where she developed a particular interest in the underlying causes of fatigue, chronic illness, and declining health.

For more than 40 years, she has been at the forefront of nutritional and ecological medicine, helping to advance understanding of the critical role mitochondria play in energy production, health, and disease. She is widely recognised for her work exploring the links between mitochondrial dysfunction, chronic fatigue, and cognitive performance, and has co-authored several scientific papers investigating the role of impaired energy metabolism in ME/CFS.

Dr Myhill is the author of numerous award-winning books, including Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: It’s Mitochondria, Not Hypochondria, which received a BMA Highly Commended Award, as well as The Energy Equation and Ecological Medicine.

A sought-after educator and speaker, she has lectured extensively to doctors and health professionals on nutrition, energy metabolism, and root-cause approaches to health. Her work has helped thousands better understand the biological mechanisms that underpin fatigue, vitality, and long-term wellbeing.

Her guiding principle is simple: to help people understand the causes of their symptoms and give them the knowledge and tools to restore health, energy, and resilience.
