Gluten-free diet can improve behavioural symptoms of autistic children. Whiteley P et al,Autism, 3(1):45-65, 1999
Details
In this study, a gluten-free diet was given to 5 autistic children and 22 children with autistic spectrum disorders over a 5 month period. Monitoring included parent/teacher feedback, observation reports, psychometric tests and measurement of compounds in the urine. Results suggested that on a gluten-free diet, participants showed a significant improvement in behaviour. There was, however, no significant change in the urine compounds measured.
