Details
This study looked at digestive disorders in autistic children. The upper digestive tracts of 36 autistic children in the age range 3 to 7 were examined. The most frequent complaints were chronic diarrhoea, gas, abdominal discomfort and bloating. 25 children had inflammation of the oesophagus, 15 had chronic inflammation of the stomach and 24 had chronic inflammation of the duodenum. Compared to non-autistic children, autistic children had significantly altered secretions from the pancreas and duodenum.
