This study was conducted to understand the psychotropic effect of vitamin D supplementation on schizophrenia symptoms. The study especially looked into sunlight exposure and symptoms of schizophrenia. 52 patients took part in the study and had their serum 25OHD levels measured to understand their current vitamin D level in the blood. The severity of symptoms was measured using the scale for the assessment of negative symptoms (SANS). The mean SANS score was statistically significantly lower after replacement of vitamin D, the total attention score was also significantly improved. The study concluded that addressing vitamin D deficiency in schizophrenic patients can improve symptoms of schizophrenia.
